Frequently Asked Questions?
How long does the certificate last?
For dangerous goods by air, the certificate lasts two years, after which to maintain the validation to ship dangerous goods by air you’ll need to attend a revalidation course. There is no expiry date on our certificates for the transport of dangerous goods by road & sea. ADR and IMDG chapter 1.3 states retraining should take place ‘periodically’ without stating a specific timeframe. We suggest training should take place in line with changes to the regulations every two years.
Does the course cover the IATA and ICAO regulations?
The course meets the training requirements outlined in the ICAO technical instructions as mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority. For the purposes of air training we use the IATA manual, since this is more commonly used commercially.
Are there any pre-study requirements?
There are no pre-study requirements for this training course, however, we recommend discussing your objectives with your manager before attending the course.
Is there an exam on this course?
Yes, there is one exam for the air portion of the training that will be conducted during the training course. There is no exam for the road & sea portion of the training.
Is the certificate valid overseas?
Every country has its own enforcement regime and interpretation of the training requirements. Many countries will recognise our UK CAA approved training course, but, please check local arrangements with your own competent authority.
I only ship small quantities – is this course right for me?
This training course will enable you to ship any quantity of dangerous goods by air, road & sea allowed within the regulations. If you do ship smaller quantities within the excepted and limited quantities thresholds we do offer a simplified training course.
I only ship lithium batteries – is this course right for me?
This training course will enable you to ship any quantity of dangerous goods by air, road & sea allowed within the regulations, including lithium batteries. We do, however, have a specialist lithium battery training course focused solely on battery transport and the practicalities of shipping them by air, road & sea.
Does the training cover radioactive material?
This course covers all classes of dangerous goods, apart from radioactive (class 7). We have a separate specialist course covering class 7 substances for transport by air.
